The Sharon Playhouse - Stage Management Intern
At the Sharon Playhouse over the summer of 2017, I was hired to be the Stage Management Intern for their mainstage plays. The season was director driven, meaning all three plays were chosen and directed by Morgan Green.
The first show of the season was “Minor Character : Six translations of Uncle Vanya at the Same Time”. This show was very prop heavy and had character speaking over one anther which made Line Notes challenging.

The second show of the season was “Far Away” a play with four characters, Harper, Young Joan, Old Joan, and Todd. This paly featured a minor child acting as Young Joan which was a new experience for me. While I have experience with children and experience with theatre, this was the first time they were combined. The show was not set heavy or necessarily prop heavy but did have several costume changes for a parade of actors half way through the show.
The last show of the season was an adaptation of “The Music Man” this was my first hands on experience working a musical and I learned a lot in this role. There was choreography and music rehearsals and instruments that were played by some of the minor children in the show.

Overall I got a lot of wonderful real world experience working at the Sharon Playhouse. I got to work with NYC area directors, equity actors, and child actors, none of which I had had the opportunity to do prior. Working with the professional stage managers gave me a lot of direction on ways I can enhance my documentation, proper equity rules, and the nuance of running a show outside of an educational environment.
